Southern Georgian Bay OPP arrested a Midland man on Monday on a number of charges in relation to a mischief and assault incident downtown this past summer.

On July 24, officers were dispatched after a 911 caller said the top of his vehicle was destroyed by a man with an edged weapon while the vehicle was parked in front of a Dominion Street business.

The vehicle owner confronted the armed man, resulting in an interaction before the suspect fled the scene, according to a police news release.

Police say on Oct. 14 while officers were at a Southwinds Crescent residence, Alex John Daka, 42, of Midland was located and arrested on the following criminal code charges:

  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Daka remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Daka is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
