No one was injured after an early morning fire in Midland Monday.

Midland/Penetanguishene joint Fire Chief Richard Renaud said firefighters from Midland and Penetanguishene responded to a structure fire at 222 Lindsay Street in Midland shortly before 7 a.m. Monday.

"Crews arrived to fine a two-storey detached home with a working fire in the attic area," Renaud said. "The fire was knocked down and extinguished. The home sustained significant damage in the attic area and in the second-floor rear bedrooms."

According to Renaud, the home's two occupants were away at the time of the fire.

"The building department will attend the scene to assess the stability of the structure," he said, noting that Lindsay Street was closed for about two hours as a safety precaution while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

"The fire cause is unknown."
