The annual Ontario Provincial Police Festive RIDE campaign kicked off Thursday, and the Southern Georgian Bay detachment is urging people to not get behind the wheel while impaired.
RIDE checks are conducted all year, and one person was charged at a checkpoint earlier this week.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Brunelle Side Road in Penetanguishene when a driver failed a roadside screening test, Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.
Meghan Brophy, 36, of Toronto, was charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). She is set to appear in court Dec. 19. She was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
So far this week, Georgian Bay OPP officers have conducted RIDE checks at 11 locations, stopping more than 100 vehicles.
