Two drivers are facing charges in separate OPP investigations Saturday.
The first started when police got a complaint at 4:45 a.m. about a possible impaired driver heading east from Midland on Heritage Drive near William Street.
An officer located a suspect vehicle near Vent's Beach Road in Tay Township.
A conversation with the driver caused the officer to launch an impaired driving investigation.
As a result, 29-year-old Mathew Williams of Moose Deer Point has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused has had his licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for a week.
He’s scheduled to appear in court on May 30.
Then just before 4 p.m. Saturday, emergency crews were called to a single vehicle crash on Scarlett Line Road in Tay Township.
OPP say neither of the vehicle’s occupants were injured, however the driver, 33-year-old Christopher Caines of Brampton has been charged with the following:
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Driving while under suspension Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance Contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin) Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
He’s scheduled to appear in court on June 20.
OPP also set up seven RIDE programs between Friday and Sunday in North Simcoe, where they checked 40 drivers for signs of impairment.
