A fiery crash has landed an Orillia man in hot water with the OPP.

On Friday night, two vehicles — a white Audi and a Mitsubishi — were "driving dangerously" on Highway 12 in Midland.

The driver of the Mitsubishi attempted to pass on the shoulder but lost control of the car which left the roadway, rolled over, and caught fire, says an OPP media release.

Simcoe County paramedics and firefighters from Midland were dispatched to assist the driver and two passengers.

The resulting investigation "provided grounds to officers to believe that the driver of the Mitsubishi was impaired by a drug." The driver was arrested and was accompanied to a local hospital.

As a result of this investigation, Tim Cole, 25, of Orillia is facing Highway Traffic Act offences and has also been charged with a criminal offence — dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

In addition, his licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Cole was released from custody and will answer his charges at a later date.

The investigation continues to identify the driver of the white Audi.
