Penetang man charged in relation to series of break-ins, thefts

A Penetanguishene man has been charged in relation to recent break-ins and thefts.

Police were investigating “a series of vehicle and business entries and thefts” in Penetanguishene when they saw the suspect on Main Street and he fled into a nearby residence early Friday morning, Southern Georgian Bay OPP stated in a news release.

A warrant was obtained, and police entered the residence at 6:03 a.m.

Matthew Cascanette, 23, of Penetanguishene, has been charged with three counts of failure to comply with a probation order, two counts each of theft under $5,000 and trespassing at night, and one count of breaking and entering a place with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Police remind residents to lock it or lose it.
