Southern Georgian Bay OPP are advising residents to exercise caution given Friday’s massive storm.
With plenty of snow and winds expected to pick up, police say “motorists should not be on Midland/Penetanguishene/Tiny/Tay area roads unless it is absolutely essential as visibility and road conditions are very poor due to snow and blowing snow.
“Stay home until conditions improve,” police noted.
As well, Mid-Pen transit service has been cancelled for the remainder of the day due to severe weather conditions.
As of 1:30 p.m., the county's LINX buses continue to operate, but are experiencing significant delays on multiple routes due to deteriorating road conditions.
The Town of Penetanguishene closed all municipal facilities Friday morning due to adverse weather conditions.
"We will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates regarding the reopening of these facilities," the town noted in a release. "Please stay safe and take appropriate precautions. Thank you for your understanding."
Askennonia Seniors Centre is also closed today due to the weather.
Shortly before 2 p.m., Tiny declared a "Significant Weather Event" based on Environment Canada’s forecast for significant snowfall and blowing snow with township offices closing at 2:30 p.m. for the weekend.
"The rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult and isolated power outages are possible," the township noted while advising drivers and residents to be cautious and drive to the conditions of the road.
Residents can help out by ensuring they don't park on any roadways/sidewalks to allow snow clearing vehicles to do their job, clear catch basins adjacent to their property and keep roadways clear.
