Sled occupant seriously injured after being run over by vehicle towing it: OPP

Police say 17-year-old driver was towing a 14-year-old in a GT racer and ran over the youth; driver facing multiple offences including alcohol-related charges

A Friday night stunt in Ramara Township almost turned tragic when a local youth was seriously injured last night.

Orillia OPP say the youth, riding on a GT racer sled, was being pulled by a vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. when the vehicle ran over the youth.

The 14-year-old was transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital with "serious non life-threatening injuries," says a news release from the Orillia OPP.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old male from Ramara Township, was charged with the following offences:

  •        Drive motor vehicle — perform stunt
  •        Careless driving
  •        Novice driver — blood alcohol concentration above zero
  •        Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  •        Obstruct plate
