A suspect has been arrested after a break and enter occurred overnight at a popular local restaurant in Midland on Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.
Officers were called to Mom's Restaurant on Pillsbury Drive at 2:39 a.m. after a report of an entry alarm.
The suspect was able to flee the scene by smashing the front glass entry door, according to police.
After determining a suspect description through video surveillance, an officer patrolling William Street at 9:30 a.m. noticed a person matching the description.
When police approached them, a foot pursuit took place, resulting in the arrest of the suspect, police said.
A 43-year-old from Tay Township has been charged with break and enter a place - commit indictable offence, mischief - destroys or damages property, theft under $5000, possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, and resist peace officer.
The suspect is in custody and awaiting a bail hearing. They will appear in court before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
