Three people are dead, including a man who had told police he had hurt two of his family members, following an incident Friday in Huntsville.

At about 9 p.m., the 52-year-old man contacted police and said he had “harmed” two family members inside a Huntsville home, and that he was in possession of weapons, the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a news release Saturday.

According to Hunstville OPP, police responded to a report of a shooting at the home in the area of Highview Drive.

Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and were able to communicate with the man over the phone.

When that communication stopped, police sent a drone into the home to search the residence, and the bodies of two women and a man were located.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide. They said there is no threat to public safety, but residents in the area can expect to see a large police presence throughout the weekend.

The SIU is probing the circumstances of the incident and said a post-mortem is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the lead SIU investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or provide information at siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
