In response to the financial burden COVID-19 is having on the North Simcoe community, Chigamik is launching an emergency food program Monday.

Although the community health centre’s Miijim Market has been postponed during the pandemic, the emergency food program gives eligible participants access to a bag of produce once per week for six consecutive weeks.

According to the agency, those who do not meet the criteria for the weekly produce bag, may register for a one time gift card for Valu Mart to purchase emergency food items.

Quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To be eligible, participants must reside in Chigamik’s primary catchment area, which includes Midland, Tiny and Tay townships, Penetanguishene and Christian Island.

On its Facebook page, Chigamik thanked its community partners Knox Presbyterian Church and Borsa Wholesale for their support of the program.
