After 30 years with MPS, OPP, Carolynn Patton turns in her badge

'Long overdue recognition for one of our dedicated former Midland Police Service members,' Midland mayor says of officer who went on to join Southern Georgian Bay OPP

A longtime Midland police officer is calling it a career.

After 30 years of policing the area, Sgt. Carolynn Patton has retired.

According to Midland Mayor Bill Gordon, Patton served 24 of her three decades with Midland Police Service from January 3rd 1994 to February 11th 2018 when she joined the OPP as the local force disbanded.

"Long overdue recognition for one of our dedicated former Midland Police Service members," Gordon said, noting that Patton (Pearsall) began her career in 1994 as one of our first female police officers.

"(She) spent 24 years serving our community with honour, integrity and distinction."

Many well wishers noted that Patton made "a massive difference" in the community she served.

Patton earned earned her sergeant rank and "was a respected platoon supervisor and transitioned upon disbandment to finish her 30-year career with the OPP," noted Gordon of his former Midland police colleague.

"It was an honour to present her with formal recognition and thanks from the Town of Midland for her service upon her retirement."

She was fêted by colleagues and friends from both forces during a recent sendoff at  British Pub And Restaurant in Victoria Harbour.

Gordon said the standing-room only crowd at the event was a testament to the admiration and respect from friends, family, former and current colleagues from the policing and judicial system.

Added Gordon: "Congratulations and thank you Carolynn!"
