The Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope, presented by For Sale on Georgian Bay, once again raised a record amount in support of those impacted by cancer.

The 13th annual event, which took place on Aug. 17, raised over $167,000 for the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre (GBCSC). This year’s event also had a record number of participants, 272.

“It is hard to put into words what an outcome like this means for the people who access our services each day,” says GBCSC executive director Eric Walter.

He admits everyone at the GBCSC is continuously overwhelmed by the support the event has generated.

“To see hundreds of people take part in the day and for so many of them to share their personal stories of how their family has been touched by cancer created such an incredible environment. People were truly there for the right reasons and the impact it has is immense.”

The event, the GBCSC’s largest annual fundraiser, was bigger than ever as it included new cycle routes beginning in Collingwood. This addition was a result of the GBCSC launching new programming opportunities in Collingwood for those living in that area. Many participants completed the event’s longest route ever, the Collingwood 150. Cyclists travelled from Collingwood all the way to the main event site at Rotary Champlain Wendat Park in Penetanguishene. Other riders cycled on routes ranging from 10 kilometres to 110 km. Many also took part by riding, walking, and rolling along the Ice Cream All Ages, All Abilities Route on Penetanguishene’s scenic waterfront.

After participants returned, a special celebration event took place featuring live music, a barbecue, along with other food and beverages. The event also included face painting, cycle vendors, and other fun activities for all ages.

A special thanks to other major sponsors Enbridge, Deluxe, Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC, Den Bosch & Finchley, Royal Homes, Kingsmen Group Inc., and the many other sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community supporters who helped make the 2024 Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope a great success.

The 2025 Cycle for Hope will take place on Aug. 16.
