The Innisfil Indian Association announces the cancellation of the Bharat Utsav 2024 event, which was scheduled for Aug. 15, 2024.
This decision comes after thoughtful consideration and reflects circumstances that are beyond our control.
The event was planned to celebrate Indian culture and heritage, with a key moment being the ceremonial raising of the Indian national flag. We were initially informed that this flag raising would follow the protocols typically observed for the national flag of Canada. However, it was later clarified that, under the town’s flag-raising protocol, the Indian national flag would need to be raised below the town’s flag.
While we fully respect the town’s policies, this protocol does not align with the vision we had for this event. Out of an abundance of caution and respect for the significance of the Indian national flag, we have decided to cancel the event.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the understanding and support of our community and the town of Innisfil. We remain committed to our mission of celebrating cultural diversity and look forward to future opportunities to bring our community together.
