Jeanette Ruth Bayly (Jan) passed away peacefully on January 30th, 2025. She was the twin pillar in her family and community, an unwavering presence beside her late husband, Dr. Peter Bayly. She was a well-loved and respected wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Jan will be remembered as an inspired individual, with a passion for the things she loved and a spicy attitude to boot. Jan spent her early adult years in the healthcare world working as an X-ray technician where she met her husband Peter. Together, the two created a lasting legacy of love, inspiration, and family.

Over the years Jan fostered a passion for gardening; this passion could be observed in her gardens overlooking her Junction Creek property. You could often find her out on the deck overlooking the gardens with a good book in hand. Another passion, and perhaps her most notable, was her love for quilting. Jan created a collection of intricate art, each quilt designed with a purpose and a passion. Loved ones would anxiously await the Christmas holidays in hopes that Jan would allot a quilt to add to their collection. Jan also had a true love for travelling, having visited over 20 countries with Peter. Upon their return, she would often share stories and tales of new-found cultures and traditions with her family.

Jan spent years coaching Walden ringette teams alongside her husband, Peter, and formed a love for coaching and athletics. This translated into a love for supporting their grandchildren at various hockey and volleyball outings. The family knows that it was always a special game when grandma and grandpa were in the stands.

Castle Rock held a special place in Jan’s heart. This island, her family cottage, was her serenity; a McGregor Bay family stronghold that is beloved by many. You could often find Jan in the gardens at “camp”, pruning shrubs or atop the deck at sunset, awaiting the catch of the day from the family fishing crew. This place will always hold her memory, as will her family and loved ones.

Jan will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather (Martin) and son Thomas, grandchildren Bayly, Taylor (Ben), Sydney, and Jack. Peter and their daughter, Gillian, will be waiting to share a glass of wine with her.

As per Jan’s wishes, there will be no public celebration. The family has requested that any proceeds be donated to Sudbury Pet Save: https://petsavesudbury.com/donate/
