December 24, 1956   June 20, 2024

After a long and valiant battle with cancer, it is with a mixture of sorrow and peace that we announce the passing, on June 20, 2024 of Maxine Gignac (nee Perczyk) in her 68'th year at Hospice Huronia Tomkins House in Penetanguishene. Predeceased by her parents Bill and Gertrude Perczyk, Maxine was born on Christmas Eve 1956. She was a devoted and loving mother to Samantha Gignac (Eric Maurice) and Dana Gignac (Christopher Cleaveley). Forever the "Best Nanny Ever" to the pride and joys of her life; Liliane, Benoit, Joséphine, Ryan and Evie. She was a beloved sister to Heather St.Amant (predeceased), Billie Hewitt and Pattie Perczyk. Maxine was a loving partner to Victor Laurin and best friend since childhood to her "Bonnie Best." She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and extended family on both the Gignac and Perczyk sides.

Maxine was a devoted and long-time employee of Elcan Optical Technologies, following in her father's footsteps at a young age and continuing on to a long and fulfilling career. She loved to fish and garden and took pride in her flower beds. We pray that she now forever catches the big fish and plays endless games of euchre with her dad. Maxine was a strong and brave ray of sunshine to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She carried herself through her cancer battle with such bravery and grace, always having a glowing smile and a few cheeky jokes making all those around her laugh and see the bright side of life.

We take comfort in knowing Maxine is now able to delight in our Lord and is reunited in Heaven with predeceased family who she so deeply missed. We would like to express our deep gratitude to the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Huronia Tomkins House, who truly enveloped Maxine and her family in love and care in her final months. She was able to live her last weeks with dignity allowing her and her family to make memories and find a sense of peace and comfort in her final days. We would also like to thank Dr. Julie Caron for her kindness, guidance and professionalism throughout her treatment and prognosis. Additionally, we would like to thank the many loving home care nurses and staff at the Cancer Centre at RVH who assisted her with treatment and care over the years.

Details of her Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice Huronia Tomkins House to not only show our appreciation but to ensure that Tomkins House is able to continue to provide invaluable support and services to other deserving families of North Simcoe.
