November 13, 1953 - January 9, 2025
Girts Herberts Gubins, born in Toronto to Vaira Millija Simsons and Herberts Christians Edvards Gubins; passed away, with his beloved dog Nacho by his side, at home on Georgian Bay on January 9, 2025, at the age of 71.
Girts, affectionately known as “Gitz,” was a man of immense joy and adventure who cherished the simple pleasures of life. As a child, his parents could rarely manage to get Girts inside, and this love of outdoor living stayed with him during his life.
Girts had a big heart and family, leaving behind his wife Cindy and daughters: Melissa, Hilary, Amanda (Steve), Krystal (Phil) Kimberly (Nardy) and Tara. Girts is survived by seven grandchildren: Dakota, Declan, Dayton, Henry, James, Jesse, and Wyatt. Survived also by his older brother Juris (Aldona).
Girts welcomed everyone into his life with open arms and had an infectious sense of adventure. He had a remarkable ability to bring people together and create unforgettable memories. He loved the lake, boats, gardening, animals, grilling, blasting music and making epic bonfires. Let’s not forget his love for fast cars and hot peppers. Girts had a very successful career as a top paper salesman in Canada and later in life finding success as a realtor. Girts will be deeply missed and cherished in our hearts, as we fondly remember the incredible memories we created together. He was truly a legend, and we will miss him dearly.
