Thoughts on Mac by his dear friend Ian:

Hi Diane,

It was with great sadness that we heard the news of Mac’s passing. I had been in touch with Margaret Hamilton who had visited him and conveyed to me Mac’s frustration and at times distress with his Alzheimer’s situation. So I suppose in many ways it was a welcome blessing for him to escape the insidious effects of Alzheimer’s.

I personally remember Mac as a kind, thoughtful and generous man. I was also fortunate to be in one of his history classes in Grade 12 in high school. He was passionate about teaching and tried to convey his enthusiasm to a not always appreciative group of restless teenagers.

Mac was very supportive of my mother too for many years and also gave away my sister Barbara at her wedding.

Elizabeth and I experienced another generous aspect of Mac when visiting Canada Mac thrilled a young Christopher by allowing him to steer his boat!

Mac will be missed by his many friends and relatives as a generous father, friend, teacher and committed member of local drama and community groups.

We were privileged to know him and our thoughts go out to you Diane at this difficult time.

Kind regards and condolences,

Ian, Elizabeth & Christopher
