It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Marley in her 93rd year at the Georgian Manor Long Term Care home in Penetanguishene.

Mary Ellen was born to Frank and Bertille Marley (nee Hall) on October 13, 1932 in Phelpston, ON.  She was the second oldest of 14 children and is survived by sisters - Marg (the late Dave Thomas), Angela and Phil, brothers – Joe (the late Deloris), Jim (the late Colleen) and Paul (Cathy) and sisters-in-law Liz (Scott Inglis) and Heather. Predeceased by her sister, Bunny Snider (the late Ken) and six brothers Ed, Mike (the late Goldie), Peter (Liz), Leo, Bill and Pat (Heather).  She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

In 1951, Mary Ellen received her Secondary School Graduation Diploma from the Ontario School for the Blind in Brantford, ON.  From there her career of over 40 years was spent with Mutual Life (now Sun Life) in Kitchener, retiring in 1994 from the Disability Claims Department.

Mary Ellen walked everywhere in Kitchener and was a great navigator on what streets to take and what landmarks to look out for.  Her sense of humour was always present and she was genuinely interested in people.  She drew you in by her trademark response “really” whether you were just talking to her or telling her a story.  Mary Ellen loved animals, especially dogs and horses.

Unfortunately, in late 2020 Mary Ellen suffered a mild stroke and later two broken hips.  Ever resilient, she physically recovered but developed dementia as a result.  In March, 2021 she moved to the Midland area to be closer to family.

The family would like to thank Georgian Manor Long Term Care Home, particularly all staff on the Tamarack Unit.  She was always appreciative of those who cared for her and we cannot thank you enough.

A visitation will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Friday, April 4, 2025.  A  Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Phelpston on Saturday April 5 at 11:30 am.  Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Phelpston.

Memorial donations in Mary Ellen’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hospice Huronia or a charity of your choice.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.lynnstonefuneralhome.com.
