It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of James Petrosky on November 11, 2024, at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliott Lake at age 37. Loved by all who knew him, James brought warmth, kindness, and understanding into the lives of everyone around him. Always taking the time to see the world from others' perspectives, he offered support and encouragement to anyone in need. Even as he faced his final journey, his strength and positive outlook never wavered. Throughout his life, James touched many communities, including Chapleau, Waterloo, Midland, and his vast community of friends online. His love for dinosaurs and geology reflected his lifelong fascination with the wonders of the natural world. Although he was unable to cross the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology off his bucket list, his passion for learning and exploration stayed with him. His love of food was just as deep; he delighted in sharing meals, sparking conversations about flavors, aromas, and cooking techniques, and cherishing the connections these moments created. True to his nature, he remained helpful until the end, always eager to lend his skills to get things working again.
He is survived by his parents, John and Cathy (nee Graham); his younger brothers, Will (Katie) and Joe (Shelly); his devoted partner, Alicia Lafaive; his cat, Thomasin and his two favourite poodles, Annie and Bessie. James and his family held a living celebration of life these past months in the hospice suite of St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliott Lake. During this time, extended family and countless friends visited, offering their love and support and sharing memories while James was still with us. The family is especially thankful to his aunt Nancy, Dr. Athina Nelson, Dr. Mike Stirling, and all the compassionate nurses and medical staff who cared for him along the way.
James was grateful to have spent his final days in the hospice suite at St. Joseph’s General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, he requested that anyone wishing to honour his memory consider a donation to the hospital. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
