Jacob Vincent Therrien
“Miskwaa Miigwan” (Standing Red Feather)
May 27, 2002 – November 7, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jacob Vincent Therrien on November 7, 2024, at the age of 22. Jacob was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, and friend whose bright spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Jacob was proud of his Mi’kmaq and Ojibwe heritage, carrying his spirit name Miskwaa Miigwan (“Standing Red Feather”) with pride and purpose. He was a compassionate warm-hearted soul, with a gentle spirit who was always ready to lift others up with his humour and kindness. Jacob’s smile and warmth filled every room he entered, bringing joy to his family, friends, and community.
He was a talented and creative individual, passionate about his culture and committed to walking the path his ancestors had laid before him. Jacob spent spiritual time beading, drumming, and singing his Ojibwe songs. Jacob loved the outdoors, finding peace and solace in nature. He connected deeply with his heritage, carrying forward his family’s stories and traditions with honour and respect.
Jacob will be dearly missed by his parents (Grahame and Nicola), his siblings (Joey, Joshua, and Jessica), and lovingly remembered by his Grandmother Jill Byrne and his Aunt / Godparent Kelly Byrne. Jacob is also remembered by his beloved partner in life April Nixon, his Godparents Darcy and David Campbell, his extended family, and many friends. While our hearts ache with this loss, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit continues its journey, watching over us from the other side.
A traditional ceremony will be held in remembrance of Jacob, where family and friends are invited to celebrate his life, share memories, and honour his spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to organizations supporting Indigenous youth, a cause Jacob held close to his heart.
May Jacob’s spirit rest in peace and find its place among the ancestors. We will forever carry his love and memory with us.
Sacred one, teach us love, compassion and honor. Teach us to heal the earth and heal each other. – Ojibwe prayer
