It is with great sadness that we announce that Betty passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024 at Hospice Huronia Tomkins House at the age of 71. Betty was the dear sister of Paul (Janet) and Bob (Donna). Auntie Betty will be missed by her nephew Brian (Brittany), grand nieces Olivia and Sophia, as well as her step-niece and nephews Jacey (Ryan), Brad (Jamie), Robbie (Brianna) and their families. Predeceased by her parents Vic and Blanche Valentine.

Betty was employed by the town of Penetanguishene in the municipal office and retired as the town treasurer. She was an active volunteer for many organizations over the years. These included the Penetang Library, the Terry Fox Foundation, the Martyrs Shrine and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health where she served two three-year terms as Chair of the Board. Betty was recognized for her volunteer work with the Queen’s Jubilee Award (2012) and also was honoured by the town of Penetanguishene for excellence in service to the town. She was a talented seamstress and knitter and enjoyed golfing, book club and travelling with friends.

The family would like to thank close friends Lesley Heymann, Marg Martin and Anne Murphy who were always there for her. The family would also like to thank her many other friends who supported Betty during this difficult journey. Special thanks as well to the staff of GBGH, RVH and Hospice Huronia Tomkins House for their compassion and care of Betty.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday November 18th from 10:30am until 1:30pm at the Penetang Funeral Home followed by a mass at St Ann’s church at 2pm.
