60-year-old charged with impaired driving in Balm Beach

A driver from Tiny Township was handed impaired driving charges after being stopped on Sunday.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer pulled the accused over while on patrol in Balm Beach at around 2:39 p.m. near the Balm Beach Road and Lesperance Road area.

After conducting a safety inspection of the vehicle, an impaired driving investigation was opened once the officer spoke with the lone driver.

Police have charged Alfred Scherer, 60 years old, of Tiny Township with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate unsafe vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Scherer was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 9, 2025 and has also had their license suspended for 90 days.

Police said the involved vehicle, a 1973 Chevrolet pick up truck, was towed and subjected to a seven day vehicle impound in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation guidelines.
