Former Barrie resident Andrew Sutton, 29, was found dead in Toronto on Feb. 25 after a 10-day search by police. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.

A former Barrie man who had been reported missing in Toronto was found dead after a 10-day search, according to family members and police.

The Toronto Police Service said Andrew Sutton, 29, was last seen on Feb. 16 around 5 a.m. in the area of Danforth and Coxwell avenues in the east end of the city.

On Feb. 26, Sutton's family announced he was found the morning of Feb. 25, but did not provide additional details about his death.

Police would not release any further information about the investigation when asked by Village Media.

Kristen Evans, a close family friend of Sutton’s, recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the family, which has raised $11,800 through 173 donations as of Wednesday evening.

“Andrew was like a little brother to me, and he had many childhood friends in Barrie that love him dearly, and this has left many heartbroken,” Evans said.

Evans, who lives in the New Lowell area, said Sutton also had a young daughter.

“Andrew was an amazing soul in many ways — so genuine, funny, kind, talented and simply a gem to be around,” she said in the campaign post. “He was such a light in all of our lives and will be deeply missed by so many."
