A 36-year-old Thornton man has been charged with murder in the death of a man in Durham, a community in West Grey.
On Jan. 4, police responded to reports of a stabbing.
The victim, Travis Hopkins, 35, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
According to the West Grey Police Service (WGPS), Hopkins died from stab wounds inflicted at or near a retail plaza at 378 Garafraxa St. S. in Durham.
Scott Timbers has been charged with second-degree murder.
He was scheduled to appear Thursday at the Walkerton Court of Justice, police said.
Police said Hopkins was the owner of a local business, Balls Deep Fishing Co., in Durham.
Local media reported the incident may have been related to “an argument between two friends,” adding the accused and the victim were business partners.
“The quote … was not accurate. Police have no knowledge of a working relationship between the victim and the accused,” police communications officer Const. Allyson Iles told Village Media on Thursday.
“There are several theories, and (the) WGPS Criminal Investigation Branch is not ruling anything out at this time.”
