Four charged in theft of firearms from Tiny home in September

Four people have been charged in relation to the theft of several firearms from a Tiny Township home last fall.

On Sept. 15, police were called to a residence in the area of Overhead Bridge Road and Concession 12 to investigate a break-in. Police said a Browning .22-calibre handgun, a CZ P-09 9mm handgun and a Smith & Wesson 939 revolver were stolen.

On Thursday, search warrants were executed at two locations in Midland. Numerous stolen items as well as a substance believed to be cocaine were recovered, Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.

Kyle Vartiainen, 33, of Midland, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts) and possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine).

Peter Alfred Norman, 40, of Midland, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, unlawfully being in a dwelling house and theft under $5,000.

Jade Marjorie Brideau-Parton, 29, of Midland, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine).

All three have been released from custody and are set to appear in court March 20.

Also charged in relation to this incident and other investigations is Kathleen Hunt, 33, of Leamington, who was arrested Nov. 19. She is facing the following charges: 

  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime (two counts)
  • Break and enter a place and steal a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Forgery (two counts)
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document (two counts)
  • Break, enter a place — commit an indictable offence
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

She remains in custody.
