Southern Georgian Bay OPP assisted Midland-Penetanguishene firefighers following an overnight residential fire on Simcoe County Road 93 just north of the roundabout.
Officers helped with road closures early Tuesday morning to ensure firefighters could get to the home located just up Golf Link Road unencumbered.
Local resident James Zimmerman said that the couple, who live in the home, along with their dogs were able to escape and get out safely.
While all lanes have now reopened, officers had shut down two lanes between Thompsons Road and Vinden Street for hours after the fire with one lane running open northbound and one south on the normally busy thoroughfare.
