Impaired driving has been “steadily increasing” this year in Central Region, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
As of Aug. 6, Central Region OPP has laid 1,496 impaired-related charges this year, “a number that has been steadily increasing with the nice weather,” police said in a news release.
Police remind people they could face the following consequences for impaired driving:
- Jail sentence
- Loss of driver’s licence
- Vehicle impoundment
- Administrative monetary penalty
- Attending education or treatment programs
- Fines upon conviction
- Be required to install an ignition interlock device
- Have a criminal record
