A Brampton man is facing charges including assault and shoplifting following incidents Tuesday morning in Midland.
After police responded to a shoplifting complaint at a convenience store on Midland Avenue, they were called to the same business shortly after 7 a.m. for a report of an assault with a weapon.
A man was “found to be creating a disturbance and interacting with a number of individuals in the downtown core area and took possession of a broken golf club and a metal bar,” Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.
Shawn Michael Baker, 40, has been charged with the following:
- Mischief (destroys or damages property)
- Assault with a weapon (two counts)
- Causing a disturbance
- Failure to comply with a release order other than to attend court
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Resisting a peace officer
- Theft under $5,000 — shoplifting (two counts)
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Mischief to public property under $5,000
He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
