During their 46 hours of patrol over the Labour Day long weekend, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers came across 12 boaters who didn’t have sufficient life-jackets on their vessels.
Six of those boaters were given tickets and six were “educated by the officers,” according to a news release. In addition, four people were charged and 14 were warned for violations of the Canada Shipping Act. One boater received a ticket for a liquor violation.
On the road, officers administered three screening tests, leading to two drivers having their licences suspended for three days.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP is continuing with its I Got Caught Wearing My Life-jacket program, which rewards youth who are ‘caught’ by marine officers wearing their life-jackets.
