Police say two boat operators provided breath samples as the Southern Georgian Bay checked for impaired boating this past week but both passed.

Marine officers attached to the OPP detachment have been patrolling area waterways as the 2024 boating season edges into June.

Between May 24 to June 2, officers checked more than 78 vessels and operators for equipment and impaired violations during their 69 hours of marine patrol, the detachment said in a news release.

Warnings under the Canada Shipping Act were issued to 21 operators for various minor equipment violations, police said.

Two tickets for equipment were issued to operators under the Canada Shipping Act. Also, two lifejacket tickets were issued and one ticket was issued for a liquor violation.

Of the operators checked, two provided breath samples into the screening device with "pass" results, according to police.

Marine unit members responded to seven calls for service along with their patrol of area marinas and waterways, police said.
