A teenager is facing multiple charges following a home invasion early this morning in Orillia where several personal items and vehicles were stolen.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Sept. 24, Orillia OPP officers were called to a home in the area of Westmount Drive and Arthur Street for a reported home invasion.
Investigators were told multiple armed suspects had entered the victim's home. The suspects fled with personal items and the victim's vehicle, prior to police arrival.
With help from area police departments, including Barrie, South Simcoe, York Region and Toronto, the victim's stolen vehicle, along with a second stolen vehicle, were located heading southbound on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte, near Highway 93.
"Officers successfully and safely brought one suspect vehicle to a stop, arresting the sole occupant, a male driver. The victim's vehicle was later located abandoned in the city of Toronto," according to an OPP release.
As a result of this investigation, a 17-year-old, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with the following:
- Robbery using a firearm
- Pointing a firearm (two counts)
- Disguise with intent
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Assault with a weapon
- Break, enter a dwelling
- Possession of property obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused has been held in custody.
Police say there are more suspects and the investigation is ongoing with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and Orillia OPP major crime unit.
