What is the role of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment Board?

Under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment Board determines objectives and priorities for the detachment in consultation with the detachment commander and advises the detachment commander with respect to policing provided by the detachment. The Board’s role is outlined in Section 68 of the CSPA. The Board is also responsible for preparing Board rules, procedures, and by-laws, and prepare board estimates and budget to Councils for board operations.

Who are the Board members?

The Board includes 13 members, with 3 provincial appointees and 10 representatives appointed by the municipalities served by the detachment, including the Township of Georgian Bay, Township of Tay, Township of Tiny, the Town of Midland and Town of Penetanguishene.

The Town of Midland has two seats on the Board. Mayor Bill Gordon was appointed by Town Council and the second seat is currently vacant and a public recruitment will take place soon.
