Staff, council and members of the community gathered to honour the late Fred Flood Monday afternoon.
Flood started working for the town in 1980, and became CAO in 1989. He held this position until his retirement in 2007.
"His dedication to the community was clear to see through his role as CAO and his passion for sports and recreation," the town posted on social media.
To honour his memory, a stretch of roadway in Tiffin Park that's just a stone's throw from the baseball diamond where he spent a great deal of time, has been dedicated as Fred Flood Way.
Flood later became a regular contributor in both letters to and chats with MidlandToday. He was a strong proponent of keeping Midland Bay Landing in public hands.
"When I look at our neighbouring municipalities of Orillia, Barrie, along with Penetanguishene they have done a terrific job of bringing the public to extensive active and passive waterfront parks," Flood wrote in a letter to the editor in 2022.
"Midland is a beautiful town with so much to offer but is sorely missing opening Georgian Bay to the community. We need more than simply walking or biking by it."
