A local animal shelter and hospital is looking for a veterinarian to fill the role of director of medicine.

The Collingwood-based Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) announced it is hiring for the "pivotal role," which will include leading life-saving procedures, diagnosing, and treating medical conditions at the animal centre.

The GTHS animal hospital not only takes care of animals that come to the shelter to find homes, but is also open to the public for lower-cost spay and neuter surgeries.

“This role is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about shelter medicine and ready to lead,” said Karen Marsh, executive director at the GTHS. “The new director of medicine will play a central role in shaping our future and helping us continue to deliver life-saving care to the animals and families who depend on us.”

The GTHS is currently working toward building a new 19,200-square-foot Centre for Pets and People, and the director of medicine will be "at the heart" of the mission to expand and enhance local services.

Because of the way the organization is structured, the director of medicine won't have to take on administrative tasks such as scheduling or billing, and they will have minimal public or client interaction.

"Unlike traditional private practice roles, this position is uniquely focused on what veterinary professionals love most – surgery and direct animal care," states a news release from GTHS. "This role allows for unwavering focus on patient outcomes."
