Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop announced $37,500 in quarterly funding for three seniors centres in Simcoe North Wednesday.

The Askennonia Senior Centre, Georgian Shores Swinging Seniors and Bayshore Senior Citizens Association will split the funding as part of the Senior Active Living Centres (SALC).

“This SALC program funding will greatly benefit our seniors community in Simcoe North,” Dunlop said in a release.

“SALC programs like Askennonia Senior Centre, Georgian Shores  Swinging Seniors and Bay Shore Senior Citizens Association are doing important work in  ensuring older adults are provided with opportunities and resources to keep them active and engaged.”

These are three of 316 SALCs that Ontario funds with the province investing up to $15 million in this fiscal year.

SALCs offer a wide variety of activities and services including fitness, healthy lifestyle and  wellness classes, recreation, and social activities, and learning opportunities. These supports  are a huge success among older adults and the seniors community.

“Senior Active Living Centres provide incredible supports for seniors,” said Raymond Cho,  Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “This investment is improving the health and well-being of  older adults and our government is proud to invest in Seniors Active Living Centres.”

A call for proposals for organizations to deliver SALC programming will open later this summer. In addition to municipalities, other local and community-based organizations such as Legions, Lion’s Clubs and other social and recreational clubs are now welcome to apply.
