POSTCARD MEMORIES: Overturned car in Midland attracts festival crowd

Luckily, there were no serious injuries in 1954 car crash that saw vehicle come to rest upside down against a hydro pole at the corner of Elizabeth and First

Imagine getting in a crash and this was the audience you got at the scene.

Things have certainly changed from the outfits to the cars and beyond. Nowadays, the driver's unfortunate troubles would likely end up on social media since gawkers with cellphones are commonplace and would undoubtedly take 'selfies' in front of the damaged vehicle.

According to a report, the "Scharbach" car crash occurred on August 1954.

"John Scharbach of Frederick Street and John Henry of Port McNicoll collided at the corner of Elizabeth and First Streets. There was an estimated $1,000 damage and Henry was has been charged with failing to stop.

Luckily, there were no serious injuries as Scharbach's car came to rest upside down against a hydro pole.

Constable Ray Atkinson of the Midland police interviewed him.

Thank you to Huronia Museum and Huron Ouendat Village for their assistance.
