Tay Township's inaugural mayor's charity golf tournament raised $68,000 to support four local groups.

Called 'Tee Off with Tay', the event held last month at the Midland Golf & Country Club attracted many in the community who wanted to help support the vital community initiatives.

"This event has demonstrated the power of our community when we come together for a common cause," Mayor Ted Walker said. "The funds raised will have a lasting impact on our schools, healthcare system, and mental health resources, making Tay Township a stronger and healthier place to live.”

St. Antoine Daniel Catholic Elementary School and Tay Shores Elementary School each received $10,000 to for nutrition programs and outdoor learning, ensuring students have access to both nourishing meals and enriching educational experiences.

Georgian Bay General Hospital, meanwhile, received $22,500 towards the acquisition of an MRI machine, which should significantly reduce wait times, ensuring swift diagnoses, referrals and treatments for better patient outcomes and timely care both locally and throughout the region.

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care also received $22,500 to support key programs such as the North Simcoe Youth Wellness Hub, the Family, Child and Youth Program and the Youth Resiliency Program, which continue to transform mental health care for youth in our community.

The Victoria Harbour St. Vincent De Paul Society Food Bank and Port McNicoll Lions Club each received $1,500 with the money to be used for the Christmas hamper campaign and Christmas toy and food drive, respectively.

According to the township, the tournament's success highlights the generosity and commitment of all sponsors, participants and volunteers who made the event possible.

"Their contributions will help enhance educational opportunities, improve healthcare access, and bring critical mental health support to those who need it most,' a release from the township noted.
