October 12, 1929 – December 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Losch, who left us after struggling with dementia for several years. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 95. Richard was predeceased by his wife Edeltraud (Traude), his wife of 40 years. Richard was a wonderful father to Mark (Robbie) and Corinne (John). He was an incredible grandfather to Courtney, Christopher, Heather, Emily, Jordan and Liam.

Richard was born in Schnaittach Germany in 1929. He became a Tool and Die Maker working for the Victoria Motorcycle factory in Nuremberg, Germany. He married Traude in 1954 and the two of them loved vacationing in Austria and northern Italy. Richard always wanted a better life and in 1960 bravely decided that Canada could provide it. He and Traude immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, but after visiting friends in Midland they decided that Midland would be their home.

Richard worked for Elcan (formerly Leitz) in Midland for several years but in 1974 struck out on his own and with two other partners started North Simcoe Tool. He spent the next 25 years building a successful business. Richard never lost sight of the importance of family. He could often be found coaching soccer, planting gardens, golfing, and cross-country skiing. He enjoyed photography and many of his pictures were hung in his home. He was a wise and thoughtful man, often offering positive advice when asked. He was also a great listening ear. He enjoyed travelling with his long-time companion Joan Church. They cruised, enjoyed Florida and spent wonderful times together. His role as a grandfather (Opa and Abu) was very important to him. He was often the “after school” entertainment for all of his grandchildren. His last 18 months were spent at the Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene where he was often heard singing, bringing a smile to staff and residents everywhere he went, and where he remained always a gentleman.

Richard will be truly missed by all.

May he Rest in Peace

Those seeking a way to remember Richard are asked to consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Richard’s Internment will be held in the spring of 2025.
