Man charged after vehicles entered, items stolen in area

Incidents occurred between early April and late May: OPP. Same man also charged in connection with a crime spree last fall

A man is facing numerous charges after police responded to thefts that occurred in the area between early April and late May.

On April 5, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were called to a home on Poyntz Street in Penetanguishene to investigate a theft of a wallet from an unlocked vehicle.

On April 13, police responded to a report of a theft of an unlocked vehicle with the keys in it from a residence on Edward Street in Penetanguishene, followed by a break-in at a Harriet Street home.

On April 23, an unlocked vehicle was entered at a Harriet Street residence and a wallet containing credit and debit cards was taken and later used throughout town at various retail stores.

On May 23, police were called to a store on King Street in Midland for a shoplifting incident, followed by another theft from a store on May 30.

Officers saw the suspect in a vehicle in the drive-thru of a restaurant on County Road 93.

Jonathan Sylvester, 35, of no fixed address, Midland, has been charged with failure to comply with a probation order (eight counts), theft under $5,000, break, enter a dwelling house (commit an indictable offence), possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, use of a credit card, and possession of a credit card.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Last October, Sylvester was arrested in connection with a local crime spree.
