City police say they have arrested a Barrie man who is accused of possessing and distributing child pornography on social-media platforms.
On Sept. 5, the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit concluded an investigation and arrested a 20-year-old man from Barrie for accessing child pornography, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, according to police.
As a result of the lengthy investigation, police say detectives learned the accused accessed several social-media sites, which included Reddit, Telegram and Snapchat, to obtain and distribute images and videos of child pornography.
Police say the man, whose name was not released, was held for a bail hearing, which took place yesterday afternoon, and was later released.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie in early October.
