Midland RIDE check leads to charges against two drivers

Charges were laid within minutes of each other Monday night

A RIDE checkpoint Monday night in Midland led to two people being charged with impaired-related offences.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were stationed on Highway 12, between Wye Valley Road and Franke Kindred Road. At about 11:20 p.m., they saw an approaching driver turn off onto Wye Valley Road. The driver was pulled over. 

Melody Faith Gauthier, 23, of Midland, has been charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus).

A few minutes later, a driver pulled up with an open bottle of liquor in the vehicle, police said.

William Stanley, 64, of Port McNicoll, has been charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus) and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.
