OPP lay 46 charges while on snowmobile patrol

Incidents occurred Friday and Saturday on local trails

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment and Central Region S.A.V.E. Team of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails in the North Simcoe area over Mar. 4-5, 2022 period checking snowmobile operators for incidents of impairment, equipment and trespassing.

The patrols and R.I.D.E. checks by these officers resulted in the following trailside investigations:

  • 14 Improper Muffler violations
  • 5 Speed violations
  • 14 Machine Registration and Drivers Licence violations
  • 5 Insurance violations
  • 5 Trail Permit violations
  • 2 Other equipment related violations
  • 1 Liquor violation

Officers conducted R.I.D.E. on the trails during their patrol time resulting in one trailside breath test on the roadside screening device with a pass result.

Involved patrol officers were happy to report that no snowmobile related crashes on trails in North Simcoe were reported.   

OPP patrol officers remind snowmobilers that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails and ice surfaces through community partnerships through which we promote safe driving practices - www.youtube.com and #Never Drive Impaired.
