Oro-Medonte resident killed in Highway 12 crash: OPP

A 24-year-old Oro-Medonte resident was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning near Midland.

Police say a motorist observed a vehicle leaving Highway 12 at "highway speeds" and crashing into a wooded area just west of Gervais Road.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Simcoe County paramedics, notes a media release from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP.

No other vehicles were involved in the fatal crash that occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. Dec. 17.

Highway 12 was closed for approximately five hours while officers trained in vehicle collision investigation from the OPP Central Region traffic unit assisted in investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.

A post mortem will be held at a future date to assist into the cause of death.
