Police remain tightlipped about Midland street closure

Wellington Street closed earlier today for 'overnight police traffic investigation'

While rumours swirl regarding a street closure in Midland early this morning, police remain tightlipped about what actually occurred.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP posted on social media this morning that Wellington Street has been closed to the dead end from Colborne Street for an "overnight police traffic investigation."

A heavy police presence in the area saw investigators probing the immediate surroundings of the block near Huron Park Public School.

As well, an Ornge helicopter was seen flying from Georgian Bay General Hospital a few hours after the OPP's social media post. The helicopter service normally ferries those suffering serious life-threatening injuries from the Midland hospital to facilities in the Toronto area.

Requests for comment about the incident, including whether police are investigating a hit-and-run, wasn't received in time for publication. However, Const. David Hobson said answers to questions posed by MidlandToday will come later today by way of a media release.
