A report of suspicious persons near the Penetanguishene Town Dock and boat launch on Thursday has led to charges.

Shortly before midnight, police responded to reports of two people attempting to break into vehicles in the same area. When police arrived, the suspects fled the area — one on foot and one on a bicycle.

The suspects were located wearing balaclavas. One was arrested on Shanahan Lane, while the other was apprehended on Beck Boulevard. Prior to the arrests being made, officers located an aerosol can containing a noxious substance, and a replica pistol was seized.

Ethan Vidler, 18, of Penetanguishene has been charged with disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, escaping lawful custody, and being intoxicated in a public place. He was released from custody and has an Aug. 15 court date.

A 14-year-old from Strong Township, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with obstructing a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent, escaping lawful custody, resisting a peace officer, and failure to comply with an undertaking. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
