The Barrie Fair has returned for another year of rides and farm fun.

The historic local event, which is celebrating its 171st edition this year, kicked off yesterday at the Essa Agriplex near Thornton. It boasts four days of family fun that includes a variety of agricultural-based activities, such as a Jersey Calf Rally and Holstein Cow Show, as well as the always popular truck and tractor pulls.

Old favourites, such as the pull track, will return for both Friday and Saturday, with the demolition derby scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Today (Aug. 23) sees 4H horse and cow shows, while Saturday boasts the Equine Mounted Games, a sheep show and a miniature horse show. Sunday's schedule has draft horse, poultry and goat shows, among many other attractions all weekend.

Live entertainment includes The Band Caves along with Barstool Confession tonight, while Jessica Sevier and Brian John Howard play Saturday. Sunday sees Kelsi Mayne, Lifted and 30 Odd 6 take the stage.

Admission is $15 for visitors ages 13 and up, and $5 for children between the ages of five and 12. Kids under five are free. A family pass is $36.
