Donna Adelaide Martin (formerly of Thornhill), passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie at the age of 82 years.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Brian Martin, brother Barry Burnett, and her parents Donald and Emily Burnett. Loving mother of Charlene and Trevor (Merissa); cherished grandmother figure and Nannie to Tyler, Cole, Mason, Alexis, Layla, Isabella and Joseph; loving sister of Brian (Tina); and treasured Aunt to Adrian, Jenna (Mike), and Matt, all of whom she loved and touched deeply. She will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends.
Donna was born in Timmins. She relocated to Windsor, where she earned her Registered Nurse designation from Grace Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1962. Soon after, Donna moved to Toronto where she met and married Brian. As a nurse for 53 years, Donna dedicated herself to caring for others, most notably in the Dialysis Unit (Peritoneal, Hemo, CAPD) at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Etobicoke. Her passion for nursing and helping others left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Donna’s spiritual beliefs were a cornerstone of her life, shaping her values and guiding her actions. She was an active member at Thornhill United Church, and after relocating to Barrie, joined Collier Street United Church. In her leisure time, Donna loved to travel, scrapbook, quill, knit, bake, and spend time with family and friends.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Adams Funeral Home, 445 St. Vincent St., Barrie. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Alzheimer Society of Canada or Collier Street United Church.
