September 19, 1935 ~ September 29, 2021 (age 86)

On Wednesday, September 29th, 2021, 10 days after celebrating her 86th birthday, Leona passed away peacefully in her sleep, at Hospice Huronia Tompkins House.

Leona was born to the late William Dusome and Isabel Deschamps (Dusome), stepdaughter of the late Henry Deschamps.  Leona was raised up on the waterfront in Penetanguishene by her mother along with her uncles and grandparents (the late Cpt. Joseph and Philomene Dusome).

Leona met and married the love of her life Robert “Bob” Paul and spent 64 wonderful years together.  When asked how she knew he was the one, she said, “at first sight”.  Together, they raised a family of four, Darlene Cousineau (Ross), Steven (Suzanne), Joseph “Joe” (Yolanda) and Robert “Dan” (Kim).  She was lovingly known as Mere to seven grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua (Stacey), Matthew (Natasha), Michael (Tiffany), Naomi, Natasha and Brandi (Ryan).  To her great grandchildren Andrew (Jess), Spencer and Charlee she was affectionately known as Old Mere.

Leona worked in the dietary department at Penetang General Hospital until her retirement.  She was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella and had enjoyed a time with the St. Ann’s Choir.  She loved Church dinners/socials, Tuesday lunches at the Legion, cards, reading, baking, preserves, quilting and lending a hand wherever needed.

The Paul family would like to Thank Dr. Ty and staff at GBGH.  A very special Thank You to Dr. Stevens for his kind and gentle way with Leona.  To Dr. Caron, Deb and her outstanding team at Hospice Huronia Tompkins House, words cannot say enough.  We are so lucky to have a facility like this within our community and cherish the time we had and that you gave to our, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Leona will be missed dearly by her family, relatives, friends and their wonderful neighbours.

An 11:00 am mass will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, November 6th, 2021

Internment to follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Penetanguishene immediately following burial.

COVID restrictions apply.  PPE must be worn and proof of Double Vaccinations required.

Donations to Hospice Huronia Tompkins House would be greatly appreciated.
