City police have charged a 59-year-old Barrie woman with impaired driving, and who was almost five times over the legal limit, after multiple collisions in the city’s southwest end yesterday afternoon.

Just after 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Golds Crescent, near Essa Road and Mapleview Drive West.

From the investigation which followed, police say officers quickly determined the vehicle had also been involved in a collision with another car on the same street, before it was located in a nearby driveway.

After a brief conversation with the driver, police determined the woman was impaired. She was placed under arrest.

The woman was transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued. A breathalyzer technician determined her level of impairment was almost five times over the legal limit, according to police.

The accused, who has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol, and operation while impaired with a blood-alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, was released from custody early in the evening.

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Sept. 9.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
